Greetings/ "Sup wit it"

I Believe My speech habits have been greatly influenced by my peers. Where I come from we use a lot of codes and slang. I usually talk this way when I am around friends and family. I am an independent person and my parents never really set a way for me. My foster mother taught me to be courteous, and respectful, and to think before I Speak. My older brothers I have to say had the biggest impact on my speech. They used to take me with them going to outside and I mimic them in many ways. I use a lot of slang because I come from an urban neighborhood. Understanding how to code switch become a means of survival. Being able to represent yourself is needed in any environment. Another big influence in my speech has to do with the music I listen to as well. I use music has a means to release stress and to relax but I often have the lyrics on my mind and I use some of the word I relate to. The way I use my speech all depends on the environment I am in. I know when to talk professional and when to be informal.

hello David, i agree with what you got to say, code switching and adapting to different environments, the same concept as Natural selection; survival of the fittest takes place everywhere.

I can relate to your entry David. I too believe that the way a person speaks depends on where they are and whose around. Code switching does begin to play a major role in life and is very useful. That's good that you understand that there is a time and place for everything.

Man that's the sign of a real "infraction". But really, I can relate, I had an older brother that influenced me heavily too, so I can see where you coming from.

Very well written, I can attest to your entry. I also grew up surrounded by slang speech in Oakland. I know your ability to code switch will not only be useful for survival sake but also very useful in building relationships in and out of urban environments.
